Lancaster is a lively University town with a history dating back to an early Roman settlement. It is home to a thriving arts scene, with galleries, theatres, cinemas and studios. It also has some great pubs and lots of live music. This, then, is where I'm based and work.

Three miles west are the beaches of Morecambe bay and the fantastic views I referred to earlier on this site. Personally I think it one of the most varied and visually stunning stretches of coastline in the country.

North from Lancaster lie the beautiful hills and lakes of  Cumbria, East is the wild moorland of the Trough Of Bowland and the magnificent limestone dream of the Yorkshire Dales. To the south, only a hour away, are the great Northern urban centres of Manchester and Liverpool.

For me, the area provides that unique mix of inspiration, where the natural world and the modern human environment meet in an arabesque of philosophically alternating chiaroscuro.

This corner of North West Britain remains one of the nations best kept secrets.
